Everyone Loves A Good Mix Tape: Kira Puru & The Bruise

“The times you lived through, the people you shared those times with — nothing brings it all to life like an old mix tape. It does a better job of storing up memories than actual brain tissue can do. Every mix tape tells a story.”
— Rob Sheffield (Love Is a Mix Tape)

The Mix Tape asks a local band or musician for a mixed bag of their 5 favourite tracks, including one from their favourite local act. Even though we might have moved away from cassette tapes and on to shuffled playlists, there’s still nothing sweeter than a great compilation, a great musical story. This week Kira Puru shares her top 5 ahead of the launch of the first single from her band Kira Puru & The Bruise, which has been described as fierce, fiery and down right sexy…

Kira Puru Track 1 - Forget Her, Jeff Buckley

Kira Puru - Track 2 - She's So Heavy, The Beatles

Kira Puru Track 3 - The Sorrowful Wife, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds

Kira Puru Track 4 - The Fool That I Am, Etta James

Kira Puru Track 5 - Theme from Znitzki, Mojo Juju and the Snake Oil Merchants

Kira Puru & The Bruise promise a moving experience - guitar licks that remove clothing, a rhythm section that gets right under your skin and, front & centre, a voice that’ll talk dirty to you then whisper sweet nothings. They’ve been called cooler than indie, and darker than the blues and are a local talent that you need to see.

The band will be kicking up their stylish heels at the launch of ‘The Streetlights Tour’  on Saturday, 26 March at The Cambridge. They’ll be joined by Mojo Juju and her new band The Black Mariah, Benjamin Fraser and there’s an after party with the Brutal Poodles. Tickets are on sale now - $12 pre-sale and $15 on the door.

Keep in touch and up to date with all this Bruise on Facebook, Twitter & Tumblr.
