Travelling Film Festival

Brought to you by the Sydney Film Festival, the Travelling Film Festival is the longest running tour event visiting over 19 different regional locations across the country. The festival celebrates Australian film, with a selection of pre-released and Australian premiers fresh from Sydney.

With no set date as of yet, the Travelling Film Festival is expected to make its way to Newcastle in 2015.

Real Film Festival

The recent Real Film Festival is an initiative of Screen Hunter and has been created to foster and develop the art of story telling real events through film. The three day event is aimed at people of all ages and encourages them to watch, learn and create the art of film through various film screenings, workshops and competitions.

The next festival is set to hit Newcastle this November.

100 Years of Charlie Chaplin

In conjunction with The Silent Film Festival, the Newcastle Museum will be presenting a tribute to the historic and timeless actor, Charlie Chaplin. The museum will display digital restorations of four of Chaplin’s silent comedy films.

Dungog Festival

About an hours drive out of Newcastle, the Dungog Festival is a celebration of film, music and food! This non profit organisation is dedicated to supporting and producing local art and talent.

Raw Natural Born Artists

Raw is an independent art organisation, which helps to provide a platform for indie film, fashion, art, hair and makeup artistry. Starting in Los Angeles, Raw has now gone global both online and offline with monthly showcases that help spotlight local indie talent.

French Fridays

Between July and October this year The Tower Cinemas will be host to French Fridays! Thanks to the Alliance Francaise de Newcastle and the Newcastle Film Society, a selection of French films will be screened each Friday. Each film will be an exclusive viewing that has never before been released  in Australia. Prior to the film enjoy the French atmosphere of the French markets, set up in the cinema foyer, which will include famous French pastries and sweets.

Newcastle Italian Film Festival

The 5th Newcastle Italian Film Festival will be back on the November at the Towers Cinema.  The non profit organisation seeks to contribute in promoting Italian culture, Newcastle and the wider region as a culturally energetic, diverse and vibrant hub. Presented by the Hand in Hand Art House, they will be donating all their net proceeds from the event to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Historic Movies Under The Stars

This is a unique event showcasing both entertaining and historic Australian Films the 1920s, 40s, and 50s. Screened on a traditional reel to reel projector, the surrounding forest provides a fitting ambience. With tea and coffee provided on the night, you are able to bring along your own drinks, chairs or rug to sit on!

Newcastle Film Society

The Newcastle Film Society screens a season of classic, art-house and rare films every Sunday in Newcastle. The Organisation’s focus is primarily based on classic, foreign and non commercial films that are not seen through mainstream cinema.

Newcastle Video Maker Club

This Newcastle club was formed in 1988 to allow amateur film makers to get together each week to talk movies. As well as holding competitions throughout the year, members are able to share their passion amongst the group, whilst learning and supporting each other in their film making needs.
