Controversial Kensington to Become All Ages Venue, Open til 3am

Inside The Kensington Nightclub.

As reported in the Newcastle Herald, Newcastle’s controversial nightclub The Kensington has been granted approval to operate as an all-ages venue, and remain open until 3am. This decision comes after many many months of debate over allowing the $4 million venue to obtain a liquor license, and its closure after a loophole regarding service of alcohol under a caterer’s license was closed.

The nightclub will operate between 6.30pm and 3am from Wednesday – Saturday with an 11pm curfew on customers under the age of 18.

Councillor Mike King has expressed concern about bringing under age people into the CBD close to venues listed as some of the most violent in NSW and vocal campaigner Tony Brown belives that the decision sanctions “alcohol grooming” for minors.

Personally I think it would be great. Apart from The Loft there are no all age venues in Newcastle that are fun to hang out at.
