DiGiT Puts The Spotlight On The Hunter’s Digital Economy

Hunter DiGiT Expo Newcastle

The Hunter Digital Innovation Growth Industry Taskforce (Hunter DiGiT) is a not-for-profit member organisation committed to establishing the Hunter Region as a leading digital economy with a global reputation, by 2020.

Hunter DiGiT is an initiative that has been formed by a number of significant and enthusiastic representatives of business, government, and non-government agencies. It has been incorporated to act as a representative body advocating the development of the Digital Economy in the Hunter Region.

Board Members and participants of Hunter DiGiT (all volunteers) represent more than 50 businesses and over 5000 employees.

“The Hunter DiGiT Launch and Expo is a significant occasion that brings together established business, community and government leaders with up and coming digital innovators and new economy drivers to share a common vision for the economic development of the Hunter Region. The Digital Economy is not something that arrives with high-speed (NBN) broadband, but it is with us now and the Hunter Region needs to reshape its economic development focus toward taking advantage of the digital opportunities as they arise rather than catch up after they pass,” said Brendan Brooks, President of Hunter DiGiT today.

“The Hunter Region Digital Economy Expo 2012 is the embodiment of some of the outcomes Hunter DiGiT aims to achieve for the Digital Economy of the Hunter Region. It will showcase new technologies from local and overseas innovators that can drastically improve business efficiencies. It will also highlight the success stories and innovative talent that already exists in the Hunter Region to business leaders who might be unaware of what is already happening in our region.”

The day gets underway from 7.30am with the official welcome and launch by Hunter DiGiT President, followed by an address from Member for Newcastle Tim Owen and a presentation from Anthea Bill from the Hunter Valley Research Foundation on Technology Use in the Hunter. From 8.30am the day becomes a whole lot more interactive with the first of six panel discussions.

“We have some amazing speakers throughout the day; including Isabel Boniface from Microsoft, Marcus Westbury from Renew Newcastle, Matt Crozier from Bang the Table and Nick Bowditch from Facebook. We are expecting particularly keen interest from the general public in our 11.30am panel; Law in the New Age,” said Brendan.
