At Urban Insider, we love to hear about new start-ups happening around town. This time, we are getting our very own Newcastle Youth Orchestra, which will be filled with some amazing local young talent wishing to get a start in the music business. Having found a home of sorts at Newcastle Museum for their rehearsals, they need a permanent solution, and like all start-ups, they need a little help getting it off the ground.

Hoping to inspire young performers through live orchestral music, this program hopes to become a leading national youth orchestra. This doesn’t just involve giving these performers a chance to play live to large audiences, but will nurture quality music education programs, give lasting concert experiences as well as open up the world of orchestra to new audiences that haven’t had a chance to witness this type of music in Newcastle before.

These guys need our help getting started, and just like community donations helped pay for audio equipment for The Terrace Bar, your donations will give voice and sound to the Newcastle Youth Orchestra. Your money will go towards providing music stands, sheet music, venue hire, advertising, marketing and branding and concert production. First years running costs are estimated at around $180k, but they only need $20,000 to get up and running.

Don’t think that your donation will be greeted by a “yay” from the orchestra and that’s that (although I’m sure there will be cheers all around). The higher you go, the better the return. Concert tickets, concert subscriptions, private concerts, business logos and personal names displayed on their new website and concept programs are up for grabs when you pledge a certain amount. They have already received over $2,000 in pledges, but with only 33 days left to get the rest, they need you.

So if you are up for some community giving and want to see these youngsters strut their stuff on stage and get a chance that they were not afforded before, then donate! Visit their Pozible site to pledge and see what you could get in return for your generous donation. They also have a new website and Facebook page, so engage with them like you guys do with us, and show them how popular a start-up can become!
