Photographing Wickham

The Grid, Wickham photos

A curious mix of industrial and residential, the suburb of Wickham certainly has a distinct personality. The architecture has a range of great textures to sample, especially the older style houses. It seems like everything is wedged in as tight as possible, like a huge version of Tetris. The industrial warehouses and sheds give most streets a mechanical smell of sorts. Home to a couple of Newcastle’s most popular pubs, the Lass and the Albion, there’s plenty of activity. Development on the Harbour side adds yet another dimension to this eclectic area.

Each week “The Grid” features photos of a selected area of the Newcastle & Hunter region, capturing moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.
