The Best Walk/Jog/Run Tracks in Newcastle



It may be wintertime in our land of perpetual sunshine, but that’s no reason to go into hibernation! Eventually we realize that we’ve been in front of the TV for too long and get that urge to venture outside and do some exercise only to realize it’s been too long and you’ve forgotten where to go. Well don’t worry take a look at the Urban Insiders guide to some of the best running and walking tracks Newcastle area has to offer.

Eleebana – Warners Bay (Appox 7 km)

This track is outside of the hustle and bustle of the city CBD, it’s a nice, relatively flat, paved track which runs alongside lake Macquarie towards the Warnders Bay esplanade. The rout is approximately 7km long one way, so a return trip would cover around 14km.

TC Firth Ave – Warners Bay (Approx 10 km)

If you like the sound of running or walking along the esplanade towards Warnres Bay but you live on the opposite side from Eleebana, then this is the track for you. This flat 10km long track will take you along the lake and will cover over 20kms in a round trip, so you may need to build up to covering the entire thing.

Nobbys Beach Reserve – Nobbys Lighthouse Break wall (Approx 3 km)

This little track covers just under 3kms and begins at Nobbys Beach Reserve and will have you run past the lighthouse to the end of the break wall and back. This track has the option of running or walking on the sand, so if you’re feeling ambitious, then try bumping it up a notch and running on the sand.

Glenrock Reserve – Robinson Reserve (Approx 16.5 km)

This track will take you through the Glenrock State Reserve and follows scenic drive towards the finish. This track is a little harder due to the amount of hills involved, but is great training for cross-country or City to Surf. This track will have you covering 16.5kms in a round trip and gets hillier as it goes. On the bright side, that means that it’s all down hill on the way back.

Robinson Reserve and back (Approx 12 km)

What’s a list of running tracks without having something to work your way up to? This 12km track starts at Robinson Reserve and takes you towards Reay Park, all up hill and back again. It’s one of the more difficult runs in the area and if you can pull this off, then you might just be ready for that marathon.
