The Havelocks Launch ‘2010 - 2011’ Release at The Cambridge

Newcastle Band The Havelocks

After a string of shows in Newcastle this year, The Havelocks have announced the launch of their ‘2010-2011’ retrospective iTunes release. The launch will be celebrated with a massive show at the Cambridge Hotel this Friday, 30 March.

The iTunes release is a collection of the bands entire recorded output, including all tracks from their albums ‘Words’ (2010) and ‘In the Valley Low’ (2011) and a bonus previously unreleased track. Joining the boys at the Cambridge will be Sydney band Bayonets For Legs and Newcastle local Thomas Lawson.

Having toured the east coast of Australia in 2011, in 2012 The Havelocks, new guitarist Marc Hallman in tow, have been busy writing, with plans to release new material later in the year. When I spoke with lead singer Lennie, he filled me in on some of the band’s recent activities.

“I spent the first two months of this year just writing songs like a madman. Locked the house up, drew all the curtains, lit some candles and just wrote all these songs. Craig came up with the best song about a turtle I’ve ever heard late last year. He seems to think he lives in Abbey Road; he’s coming up with some pretty inspired tunes. Marc and Jay are virtually residents at my house, writing songs about pirates and Lily Allen”.

The band undertook a reshuffle earlier this year, with Marc taking over lead guitar and Lennie moving to bass. This reshuffle is one of the reasons behind the release of the retrospective ‘2010-2011’ collection. “We decided to do this as we’ve had one member leave and a new member join us, so we thought it’d be a good idea to get all our recorded work out there as one bundle”.

When asked about the new band member Lennie said “Marc just adds this whole new feeling to the music and to the band. It feels right. I don’t want to sound like a dick, but this band is like a family and Marc is like the gentle mother. Craig is the younger child. Jay is the attention seeking older sister. Luke is the patient father, and I’m the milkman”.

It seems that with this fresh start, and their sense of humour still very firmly intact, The Havelocks are more focused and in sync than ever, so head down to the Cambridge this Friday for a massive night of music.

The Havelocks‘ launch will take place this Friday, 30 March at The Cambridge, entry will be $5.
