Gigs You Might Be Keen On in the Next Couple of Months

Melbourne’s The Brothers Grim are bringing their brand of voodoo delta blues-a-billy to The Northern Start Hotel on Saturday, 11 June. They’ll kick off their unwholesome, moon howling, sweat dripping fiasco at 10pm. Tickets are just $12 and are available online or at the door.

Gossling was recently in Newcastle supporting Oh Mercy and will be back in July for a headline show. Gossling, AKA Helen Croome, will tour across NSW and Victoria to promote sophomore EP ‘Until Then’ and current single ‘War’. Joining her will be Ryan Meeking and special guests. Catch her at The Northern Star Hotel on Saturday, 2 July. Tickets are $10 pre-sale or $13 on the door (availability pending).

Jordie Lane to release second album ‘Blood Thinner’ + visit Newcastle as part of National Tour. You can catch him at The Wickham Park Hotel on Thursday, 28 July. Tickets available online through Big Tix or at Ramjet or Suspension Cafe.

Liam Finn was on a mission with his latest album FOMO: “We wanted to create music that, once you got into it, you could appreciate was good… but when you first heard a song, there was just something about it that made you respond, instantly.” You’ll get your chance to quell your FOMO, or fear of missing out, when he performs at The Cambridge Hotel on Wednesday, 24 August. Tickets on sale now.

Survey for Musicians & Music Techs

Innovation & Business Skills Australia (IBSA) is currently surveying musicians & technicians who’ve worked at venues with live music in the past 12 months. The survey is up on the Australian Music Industry Network (AMIN) website and will contribute to a government-funded study of the economic benefit that casual, informally contracted musicians and technicians (e.g. sound & lighting) off to venues that play live music.

Newcastle musicians and technicians, please take the time (about 5 mins!) to complete it. The available information on your contribution to the live music sector has been limited up to now. The information you provide will help IBSA to work with the government to promote initiatives that support and encourage live music and lobby for further funding dedicated to improving your skills in the industry. You also have the chance to win a $250 voucher for musical goodies!

Click here to do the survey. It closes on June 8 at midnight.

Helen Henry grew up in Newcastle, and in 2010 graduated with a Bachelor of Communication from the local University. This was pleasing because it made her officially qualified to communicate about the things she likes most: music and the music industry, photography, digital, cute animals and her friends & family. Most recently, Helen worked as a Digital Projects Assistant at Sticky Advertising and was Editor of Urban Insider. She has recently landed a pretty sweet gig working in the music industry in Sydney.
