November is shaping up to be a great month for local artists and designers in Newcastle with the Roots Creative holding an open arts exhibition, the Bird Cage hosting a High Tea to welcome four new artists and designers, and the Newcastle Writers Group holding a writers day giving a chance for both experienced and beginner writers the opportunity to showcase their work.

Newcastle Creative Writing Day

The next Newcastle Writers Day is scheduled for Saturday the 26th November 2011 from 10am till 4pm. This event is open to all newcomers, no matter what your experience level. Both beginners and experienced writers are all welcome. The cost will be $55 for members or $66 for non-members. The day’s topics include memoir, flash fiction writing and the short story. So come along and share your work or enjoy some of the other local writing talent on show.

The day will be held at the Hunter Writers Centre located at 90 Hunter St, Newcastle.

High Tea @ The Bird House

To celebrate and launch four exciting new artists, The Bird House will be holding a High Tea from 12-2pm on Saturday the 26th November.

The Bird House is a collective of artists and designers based in Newcastle that currently consist of ArtsMad (Madalyn Ward), and Nat and Mims (Natalie and Imogen Numeyer). These designers create handmade and innovative works of art, clothing and jewellery. As a collective their works are inspired and influenced by the cultural and vintage world of abstracted motifs, patterns and intricate designs.

This event will be held at Shop 20 Market Square, 119 Hunter St Newcastle. The cost will be $25 which includes wines, finger food and organic herbal tea. Please RSVP to the address below before the 23 November 2011, so come and help celebrate!

“Two Tone” Exhibition hosted by The Roost Creative

The Roost Creative is hosting an exhibition of artworks & designs using two colours/tones achieved by screen printing, lino-cutting, letterpress, stenciling or digital printing. The event includes exciting entries from artists such as Trevor Dickinson, Carl Morgon and Keo Match and Carlo De Los Santos.

Artworks are to be submitted before the 18th November with the opening night being held on the 25th November 2011.

You can drop off your work anytime between now and the 18th November leaving your name, contact number, and the name of your work (if it has one). The entry fee will be $10 per piece, to be paid when the work is dropped off. There is also an option to sell your work on the night  (a 20% commission will be taken by The Roost Creative for any work sold). Creative prints of your work can also be arranged prior and sold on the night.

“Flourish 2011″ & “Proof” by Hunter Institute TAFE

The official opening night of Flourish 2011 is being held from 6.30 - 8pm on Wednesday 9th of November. Flourish is an exhibition of concepts and designs for residential Interiors that is being shown by Hunter Institute TAFE. This event will be held at The Master Builders Association, Level 1, 165 Lambton Road Broadmeadow.

Proof is an exhibition of printmaking and photography by Diploma and Fine Arts students from the Hunter TAFE.  The exhibition will be held from Tuesday 8th November till Friday the 18th November with gallery opening hours from 11-5pm Tuesday - Friday and from 12noon - 4pm on Saturdays. The opening night will be held on Wednesday the 9th November at the Front Room Gallery from 5.30pm.

The Newcastle Art school is located at 582 Hunter St Newcastle West.
