Friday 26th April

The Darkened Seas + The Theaves @ Great Northern Hotel

Try and recover from ANZAC Day yesterday and hear The Darkened Seas perform their fresh Rock & Roll sound which makes these four young Sydney musos who only formed in early 2012 a band to watch. Their blues infused tunes make these winners of Hornsby’s Rock the Block band comp your new favourite band. Their name comes from Lou Reed’s song ‘Heroin’, and they pay tribute to Reed’s New York sound. They will be supported by The Theaves, a local band who play some blues Rock & Roll tunes and have fun doing so which means you will have fun watching them. Doors open 8pm. Tickets $10 on the door.

One Vital Word (Album Launch) @ The Cambridge Hotel

Newcastle based band One Vital Word is ready to show what they’ve got with their first album launch. They are known for their energy on stage and features members from One Dollar Short, Hand of Mercy and Driven Fear. Supporting these mates will be Newcastle rock band Local Resident Failure who will gain fans that love NOFX, Frenzal Rhomb, Lagwagon, Bad Religion, Wiseheimer and Propagandhi. Five piece rock and roll band Sparrows joins the line-up and will please fans of The Hives and The Bronx. To get the party started will be Musweelbrook boys Staunch whose mix of punk/thrash/hardcore generate an electric stage presence. 18+ event. World Tai Chi Qigong Day @ Empire Park, Bar Beach

Over 70 nations take part in World Tai Chi Qigong Day, which means get your comfy pants on and head on down to Empire Park, Bar Beach at 10am. Master Trainer Cheryl Lee PLayer from the Australian Tai Chi Institute is holding a FREE Tai Chi session where everyone, whether experienced or not is invited to partake in some community health and wellbeing.

Retro Rockets @ The Wickham Park Hotel

You can rock, boogie, swing, jump, jive or wail to this band as they have you moving and shaking the night away. Featured at major Jump Joints around Newy, Groovin’ The Moo as well as on The Today Show and the NBN evening news, you don’t want to miss these guys tearing it up!

Bodacious Cowboys (Last Ever Shows!) @ Lizotte’s Restaurant

The Bodacious Cowboys brings some of the best in music together to celebrate the music of Steely Dan for a night you won’t forget! 75 Years on Buddy Holly In Concert! @ Wests New Lambton

This is one tribute not to be missed! Starring international star Scot Robin, listen to Rock & Roll at its best through this two hour show. Robin with Crickets will perform over thirty of Buddy Holly’s hit songs such as ‘That’ll Be The Day’, ‘Think It Over’, ‘Peggy Sue’, and ‘Oh Boy!’. Australian Doctors Orchestra @ Conservatorium of Newcastle

Newcastle Outdoor Ice Rink @ Wheeler Place

Bane @ The Cambridge Hotel

This is a concert for fans of hardcore with Massachusetts band Bane. Returning to Australia after five years, these guys have five albums and numerous EP’s under their belt. Their melodic hardcore sound will be joined by Melbourne band Hopeless, who have recently been working on their second full-length album to their debut Dear World and 7-inch Human, both of which have sold out of their pressings. Sandi Thom @ Lizotte’s Restaurant

Hailing from Scotland, Sandi Thom is embarking on her first Australian tour showcasing her songwriting and multi-instrumentalist skills. Best known for her 2006 no. 1 hit “I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair)”, Sandi his here to promote the release of album Flesh and Blood that includes a mix of sounds from a blues rock feel to country-flavoured tracks.
