Brand Newcastle: Vibrant & Diverse

Brand Newcastle

The Urban Insider journey so far has been a pleasure - we’ve uncovered, recorded and thrown Newcastle talent into the spotlight since early 2011 and it is so exciting to see just how much goes on in our city. The site now houses all sorts of bits & pieces like local guides, articles following the journeys of local fashion designers, artists, small businesses and musicians, & photographs of the Newcastle region.

The new brand Newcastle, launched yesterday by the Council’s Tourism & Economic Development Services department, is an exciting identity for the city which delves below the surface, telling an inspiring story of Newcastle’s past, present and very bright future. The city’s diversity & vibrancy is something that locals know well and it is great to see this insider’s view transferred into the image we’re showing to the world.

The branding was launched yesterday with a snazzy new logo (shown above) and the placement of 16 Visitor Information kiosks in key areas of the city. Find out more by watching the series of videos put together about the development of the campaign:

The Council has since launched a Brand Newcastle Competition, giving locals the chance to share their ideas for how this brand could be used around the city.

What do you think this new brand means for Newcastle?

Helen Henry grew up in Newcastle, and in 2010 graduated with a Bachelor of Communication from the local University. This was pleasing because it made her officially qualified to communicate about the things she likes most: music and the music industry, photography, digital, cute animals and her friends & family. Most recently, Helen worked as a Digital Projects Assistant at Sticky Advertising and was Editor of Urban Insider. She has recently landed a pretty sweet gig working in the music industry in Sydney.
