Life Drawing with a Difference: Welcome to the Drawing Room

Life Drawing

Whether you consider yourself a creative genius or amateur artist, if you are looking to cultivate your creative flair the Drawing Room is certainly something to check out.  I fall very much into the latter category, but like to think that given a piece of blank paper and a pencil, I can produce a landscape that resembles what I am looking at and have a great time doing it.

The Drawing Room involves a landscape, a natural landscape, something we like to call life drawing.  Instead of looking at a tree and a sky, you will be looking at the beautiful human body in all it’s glory.  The rest is up to you.

Intrigued but perhaps a little daunted? Never fear, an armchair and glass of wine for Dutch courage will be supplied.  So what exactly is the Drawing Room I hear you ask?

Run out of the Royal Exchange in Bolton Street Newcastle, the Drawing Room offers a 5 week life drawing course sequentially structured to develop and assist the most novice artist acquire skills in the practice of life drawing.  These are on Monday nights and classes are small to allow for one-on-one personal feedback. Held in a boudoir setting, these classes are definitely something different for dinner party discussions!

On Tuesday nights, The Drawing Room has sessions for the more artistically confident with models drawn from Newcastle’s talented pool of burlesque, circus, steampunk, ballet, tango, acting, opera and alternative theatre  performance artists.

For the beginner course, the full cost for the 5 week course is $200 with a $50 deposit required to secure your place.  You can pay the full amount up front, but if not, the remaining $150 will be required on the first night. Tuesday night’s are just $20 at the door. If you would like more information or to book, please contact Ann Caddey on 0412 255 652.

ann caddey

I went to the Drawing room tuesday nights last year for several months and found heaven in Newcastle.

Hi there
I recently moved to Newcastle having moved up from Sydney where I had recently begun being a life model for an artist in Sydney. I am keen to see if there is a need up here to do the same, but not sure who to contact.
Look forward to hearing from you,
Kim
