Today at Lake Macquarie is the 3rd installment of the Regal By the Lake Film Series. Held at the Lake Macquarie Performing Arts Centre, tickets are $10 and cover the movie plus drinks and nibbles. Saturday, 24 March

This Saturday night head down to Bar Petite for cocktails, a delicious selection of tapas, and listen to the enthralling vocals of Newcastle talent Anna Milat. For more information.

Sunday, 25 March

Head over to Blackbutt Reserve for the Blackbutt Twilight Fair between 2-7pm! With music, market stalls, kids rides, wine tasting, a monster raffle, a sausage sizzle and much more! For more information.

Today at The Lass O’Gowrie is the Fundraising event Dogs Make the Best People. The day is in support of the Soi Dog Foundation and will include a BBQ, vegan bake sale, pop culture trivia and raffles and a great line up of bands, featuring Phoebe Daicos, Landon Eliott River, James Thomson, Brad Vincent, and The Young Pretties! Starting at 1pm and going all afternoon and night, head down to The Lass to support a good cause, enjoy some good music and have a few drinks.

Tuesday, 27 March

Like every Tuesday night, The Great Northern is hosting their ‘Play for a Pint, Sing for your Supper’ Open Mic night. Musicians are encourgaed to head down and play a half hour set in any genre of their choosing, and they’ll get a free meal and drink! Doors open at 7pm and entry is free, for more information.

Wednesday, 28 March

Don’t miss the dynamic Brisbane band Ball Park Music  play at Bar on the Hill tonight, as part of their 180º Tour! The tour follows the release of their debut LP Happiness and Surrounding Suburbs last September, featuring tracks such as It’s Nice to be Alive and All I Want Is You, placing #31 and #31 respectively in Triple J’s Hottest 100. Tickets are $17 for U members, $19.50 for students and $22 for guests, from Bar on the Hill, the Rock Shop on Hunter Street or here. Doors open at 7.30pm.

Have you been blessed with the Red Head gene? The Dockyard is now celebrating Ranga Night every Thursday and ‘getting one back for the Gingers’! Take your red headed friends to The Dockyard and you’ll get your first Bucket of Coronas half price, as well as a free bowl of kumera chips!

Tonight at Lizottes, Alabama 3 Acoustic and Unplugged will be playing as part of their Bluesfest sideshows. Alabama 3 Acoustic and Unplugged is a four-piece outfit consisting of Larry Love (vocals), Aurora Dawn (vocals), Rock Freebase (guitar) and Harpo Strangelove (harmonica). “This is country/gospel/delta blues, but played with a rhythm you’ve still got to dance to”. Saturday, 31 March

Tonight the Sydney 8-piece The Herd are back in Newcastle for their A Thousand Lives Tour. Playing at The Cambridge Hotel, tickets are an easy $25 from here and doors open at 8.30pm.

The Civic Theatre proudly presents Ross Noble, as he brings his new Nonsensory Overload Tour to Newcastle. A comedic genius, Noble spins forth ‘hilarious nonsense for your enjoyment’. Tickets are $44.90 and can be purchased here.

Sunday, 1 April

This Sunday at The Clarendon Hotel is the first Sundae Fundaze of 2012! The ultimate Sunday session, this weekend features the Freestylers hailing all the way from the UK! Most notably known for their hit Push Up, their eclectic style focuses on everything from breaks to ragga and dubstep. Tickets available from the Clarendon Hotel and Ramjet for $15, or at the door on the day for $20. Starting at 2pm and going through until 9.30pm, don’t miss the official afterparty at King Street Hotel!

Anja is a 3rd year student at the University of Newcastle, studying a Bachelor of Communication (majoring in Public Relations and Media Studies). She has interned at InStyle Magazine, worked on the committee for Newcastle Fashion Week and is an intern at Sticky. She also spent 5 months studying in Manchester and backpacking around Europe.
