5 of the Best Places For A Sneaky Beer That Don’t Involve a Trek Into Town

Sometimes after a hard days work or a long day dealing with the general public we feel the need to unwind with cold beer but that cold beer usually turns into two or three which leaves you stuck in the pub unable to drive home. The last place you want to be stuck after a day at work in the Newcastle CBD, where taxis home cost upwards of $50 and that’s if you can flag one down. The Belmont 16 Footers Sailing club

The Belmont 16s is a top place to ease into the end of the day. You can get some food or just have a few drinks and relax. The club has its very own snooker room complete with four tablets; better yet it’s also free to play. If snooker isn’t your thing then there’s always the sport on the TV or the uninterrupted waterfront view to watch and let your mind float away. Once your unwinding session has come to an end the 16s offers a free courtesy bus, which will gladly take you home and finish off your sneaky beer session.

Wests Leagues Club

Wests is more for the person who has had a rather bad day and wants to blow off some steam. Open till the wee hours of the morning, wests allows you to keep your sneaky session going until your ready to call it quits. Complete with more gamboling and poker machines than anyone can count, more bars than any other club not within the CBD and a multitude of different places to eat, Wests could be the town away from town you’ve been looking for.

Belmont Gunyah Hotel

The Gunyah Hotel in Belmont is a bar, club and hotel all rolled into one. The Gunyah houses live bands and continually has sports on its multitude of TVs. Once your night comes to a close you have the option of walking around the corner Belmont’s main bus station or simply staying where you are in one of the Hotels pristine suits. The Gunyah Hotel isn’t just for the locals; it’s a great place finish off the day and have a few of those sneaky brews.

Jewells tavern

The jewells Tavern boasts good food and good drink topped with sports galore. The Jewells tav is the place to go if your sneaky beer session involves brining your kids along. The child friendly Tav has a games cave specially designed to keep the little ones happy. Tucked away in the residential area of Jewells, this little pub and eatery will have you chilled out in no time.

Warners Bay Tavern

The Warners Bay Tavern has recently been given a major reputation facelift, the old tavern used to be where the older blokes went to get away from their house for a while, but of late it’s become one of the best places to be in the area. The Warners Bay Tav is a happy go-lucky pub complete with eatery during the week that would will let you chill out and welcome in the end of the day. However, when the working week is over, the Tav turns into a nightclub complete with theme nights, DJs and dance floors. Every weekend is different from the last, it’s one of the closest and best places to go short of the Newcastle CBD.
