With the year quickly drawing to a close, the party season is just beginning! Newcastle will play host to some big name gigs this week with City & Colour, Saskwatch & Troy Cassar-Daley and don’t miss out on the Variety Children’s Charities’ Santa Fun Run.

Thursday 28th

City & Colour @ Civic Theatre

Following the announcement earlier this month that Canadian musician, Dallas Green – known better as City and Colour – would be visiting Sydney and Melbourne to promote the release of his new album The Hurry and The Harm, (June 2012, Dine Alone Records) the news also spread that during his stay he’d be announcing details of a full national tour later in the year. Chugg Entertainment can now confirm that City and Colour will be returning to Australia this November for a national run of shows in venues varying from intimate 650 capacity theatres to 10,000+ capacity outdoor amphitheatres.

We can also confirm that opening each night for City and Colour, will be local talent, Husky. Following nearly two years of touring the world, Husky changed pace this year and spent most of 2013 in the hills behind Melbourne, creating a new album. Their performances with City And Colour will see the debut of much of this brand new work. Husky’s debut album, Forever So, is out now everywhere and their sophomore release is expected early 2014.

This tour will be the biggest tour to date and Green’s 9th tour in Australia. A brand new backing band will accompany Green, including Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather), Dante Schwebel (Hacienda, Dan Auerbach), Doug McGregor (The Constantines) and Matt Kelly. Spending more than three weeks in Australia, it’s not just the Canadian native’s opportunity to trade a cold winter for warmer weather, but testament to Green’s commitment to his fans, as he tours across the nation; stopping in all the major cities as well as those often missed. If these shows are as highly anticipated as his previous tours, tickets will not be available for long.

Time: 7.30 pm

Tickets: Adult $69.95 (SOLD OUT)

Saskwatch @ The Small Ballroom

Legendary Melbourne soul outfit Saskwatch have return with their brand new single ‘Hands’. Powered by the tremendous vocals of front woman Nkechi Anele and incorporating fast-paced drumming, handclaps, and an utterly ecstatic brass section, ‘Hands’ is Saskwatch at their most playful and energetic.

The latest release follows on from previous single ‘I Get Lonely’, a track recorded in collaboration with one of Saskwatch’s favourite local producers, Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring). For ‘Hands’ the 9-piece soul outfit continued on their 2013 collaboration bent and enlisted Jarrad Brown (Eagle And The Worm) to produce, Julian Mckenzie (Money For Rope) as engineer and Haima Marriott to mix.

‘Hands’ arrives as Saskwatch prepare for a massive 12-date National Tour in what will cap off an extremely productive year for the band. 2013 has already seen Saskwatch tour extensively supporting Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and Earth, Wind And Fire as well as festival appearances at Glastonbury and Back on Black Festival in Spain.

Perch Creek Family Jug Band @ The Small Ballroom

Off the back of new single ‘Big Things Calling’, the first taste of their forthcoming new album, Melbourne’s The Perch Creek Family Jugband have just announced their national “Dressin’ Up & Shakin’ Down” tour.

Originally from Perch Creek in the North Coast area of NSW, The Perch Creek Family Jugband is four siblings and one stray partner. With humble beginnings as a street jug band led by their eccentric father, Bob Hodgkins, The Perch Creek Family Jugband has been performing and evolving over the best part of ten years. Though Bob has since hung up his jug band hat and handed over the reins, he laid in place the foundations for one of the most engrossing and innovative musical acts doing the rounds of Australia today.

From playing live on Spicks & Specks to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Perch Creek Family Jug Band have a long history of working, touring, playing and living together, but interestingly, given their history and lineage, their new studio album (set for early 2014 release) marks the first time they’ve collaborated closely as a unit throughout all stages of the song writing process.

Now: to take this new sound and the songs that it has spawned (as well as all their crowd favourites) on the road; The Perch Creek Family Jug band are “Dressin’ Up & Shakin’ Down” Australia, and they’re inviting you to join them. Spritzing up each venue on the tour, pulling on their own best threads and hoping you come along in yours, the “Dressin’ Up & Shakin’ Down” tour will see the quintet teaming up with a selection of their favourite acts as well as unearthing some other little surprises for new friends and fans along the way.
